Religious Radicalism and Islamic Universities in Aceh: Between Campus, Environment and Family

This paper discusses how Islam is understood, taught, and practiced at the State Islamic Religious Higher Education Institution (PTKIN) in Aceh, whether contextual approach tolerance towards difference are used, there any indication of development religious radicalism, PTKIN Aceh positions itself this problem, also, environment family play their roles on issue. qualitative study collected data by means observation, in-depth interview, documentation, focus group discussion. The were then analyzed following steps: reduction, display, verification, conclusion drawing. selected as research sites consisted Universitas Negeri Ar-Raniry Banda Institut Agama Zawiyah Cot Kala Langsa, Sekolah Tinggi Gajah Putih Takengon. In general, findings revealed that has been relatively free from radicalism. teaching studies still adheres to Qur’an, Hadith authoritative references various sources time periods, classical contemporary books, moderate approaches respect differences understanding. small potential threat radicalism addition academic system built within itself, influenced socio-cultural political which quite accommodating aspirations law. today compatible with state because given Acehnese peoplethe right exercise law, not only private sphere, but also public sphere. However, one needs be aware of, way commute between home campus; and, particular space bridged properly so students will recruited exclusive groups without knowledge campus families.
